Our New Year's Wish

We can't believe that the New Year is upon us.  This past year has been a year filled with many blessings for the Two Mujeres and we can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for us all.

As we start the new year, many of us make resolutions like to lose weight, spend more time with the family, get out of debt, and to exercise more. Unfortunately, statistics show that within six months more than half of us have failed with these resolutions.

If you instead focus on the benefits of your resolution; like living longer, being able to play with your children or having the financial freedom to do what you want, it may help you stick to your resolution. It will allow you to not only have a goal in mind, but to then take it a step further and visualize what your life will look like when you finally reach it. Remember that even if you may slack one day, don't punish yourself too hard that you just give up. Challenge yourself to get back on track and stick to your commitments. You can do it!!

Nothing worthwhile is handed to us on a silver platter. ~ Unknown

The Two Mujeres have many goals for the year 2012. We have ones together as we continue our blog, and separate ones as we each continue our individual journeys. We will continue to bring you the most up to date information on women's health issues.
Our New motto is:  Better Health ~ Better Life.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all the people and organizations that have been so supportive and have lent us a helping hand this past year.  You will always have our gratitude. We hope that all of you continue to follow us on the journey to better health!!

Wishing you All a very HEALTHY New Year 2012!!

One More Benefit to Exercise

Most of us know the benefits of regular exercise in our everyday life.   Exercise controls weight, helps fights health conditions and diseases and boosts your energy among the many benefits.

Well, there's another benefit to add to exercise.  A new study suggest that it might help you sleep better. This might be good news for those of us who are insomniacs.

Researchers from the Oregon State University found that people who meet the national exercise guidelines sleep better at night and feel less tired during the day.

The national exercise guidelines call for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise (30 minutes a day), or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise (15 minutes a day), each week.

So there it is,  it is time to add some exercise to our daily routines.  It will benefit us all around.  Remember, you do not have to belong to an expensive gym to exercise, you can change some habits and do little things to make a difference, like take the stairs instead of the elevator, park your car at the furthest spot from the entrance of the mall or dance a couple of songs from your IPod.

FYI:   Here in New York, the Department of Parks & Recreation offers free exercise classes and/or other programs all year around.  Find out more here:  Shape Up NYC

Lets move  a little more and enjoy some GOOD quality sleep!!!

Editors' Note:  The study, is out in the December 2011 issue of the journal Mental Health and Physical Activity, showing the importance of exercise to a number of health factors.
