Five Questions with the Ladies behind The Voices of Two Mujeres

Happy  Lunes! We wanted to share a little more about us and why we love what we do!  Here are 5 things you may not know about us.  Thank you always for all of your support.

What is your favorite inspirational quote?

Patti:  I have many. I love them, but there is one that really resonates with me these days and I really live by it: "Everyday is another chance to make it better." ~ElizTalks

Helen:  Different quotes have resonated with me throughout my life, but the one that I remember each time I step out of my comfort zone is, "Well-behaved women rarely make history".

What's one thing other people may not know about you?
Patti:  Hmmm... well, since being a survivor and an advocate on cervical cancer, I have become an open book so there is really nothing that I have not talked about before.. Maybe people should know that I kind of psychoanalyze them when they are talking to me. LOL

Helen: I come from a huge family, affectionately referred to as "the Latino Brady Bunch". I am one of seven, both of my parents had children before in their first marriages, and then together had me and my younger sister. I think at this point I have 15 nieces and nephews, but I stopped counting awhile ago.

Your favorite guilty indulgence?
Patti:  OMG this is a loaded question for me since I've been on a weight loss journey. I'm going to say it here for the first time, as of today, I'm officially 3 pounds away from losing 100 Lbs. Yaayyy for me!!!  That's not to say that I don't indulge once in awhile. I love bagels and I have a sweet tooth. I love any kind of white chocolate cakes. Mmmmmm!!!!

Helen:  Same here! I dropped a dress size to compete for Ms. America this past April, and have dropped another dress size since then. There is no better feeling than being healthy! But I do love my cheat day or days depending on the week :) Give me a loaded cheeseburger that oozes goodness whey you bite into it, like you see on the Food Network show Diner, Dive-Ins and Dives (aka Triple-D), and I am on happy chica.

One thing you wish you could tell yourself 10 years ago?
Patti:  Something that I learned the hard way.  Don't let your health slip away.  Be on top of it even if you feel fine. Don't miss those check-ups, eat healthy and exercise more. Better Heath ~ Better Life.
Helen:  I have no regrets because I believe every good and bad experience, every person in (and out) of my life all played a role to shape and mold me into who I am right now. Despite all that I would tell myself that I am more than worthy. Loving someone never means sacrificing your self-worth or having to suffer to "prove" your love to someone. Learn when to know it's over and just walk away.

Why do you advocate so strongly for women?
Patti Aha!! This is a great question. First of all I have the passion and I do it from the heart. As a Latina woman I know that we tend to put ourselves last. The family, the husband, the kids, the career, the dog, the cat and everything else comes first. We forget that we are vulnerable too and that if something happens to us, your loved ones suffer too. I want women to understand and be educated that my journey doesn't have to be theirs. My trainer, #KillerKetsy, is always saying it and I want everyone to take these words and remember them, "It's all about ME - because if I take care of myself I can give my loved ones 100 percent." Much Health Everyone !!!!

Helen: I agree with Patti, women are often the center of the family structure. If we fall, everybody falls right alongside with us. For me, even though I'm a private person, I'm learning the more I share with how I was able to turn my life around, the more women I (hopefully) inspire to do the same. Once I learned to advocate for myself, the next step for me was to advocate for others. I'm hoping to motivate other women, but also find other people who will help me in finding and creating solutions to all the disparities in women's health care.
