The Great Commando Debate

Not quite what you had in mind?
No we're not talking about flashing the world à la Miley Cyrus or worse - Britney Spears. Many women wonder whether or not they need to wear underwear to bed. The answer is no. Well, a better answer is that it really depends on your personal preference. If you really feel bare "down there", then wear pajama bottoms or loose boxers. Wearing cotton underwear to bed is better than some of the fancier rayon/silk blends because it allows you to (ahem) breathe, but they also have a tendency to trap moisture and bacteria making you prone to developing some not so nice yeast infections. There may be certain times in your monthly cycle where you may find it necessary to wear underwear, but other than that try ditching them - your partner will thank you!

How Fertile Are You??

We are sure that many of you have heard women say  "my biological clock is ticking", but women are waiting a little longer to have babies these days due to many reasons like their careers, looking for Mr. Right, waiting for the right moment in their lives, financial security and for so many other reasons.  But how long can you wait??

For most women, age best predicts the chance of conception per month.   On average it takes three to four months for a 25-year-old woman to conceive if everything else is normal and it takes twice this time for someone who is 35, and by the time you are 39 the time of conception will be 15 months.

Three Reasons to Love Lemons

Go ahead, you know you want one
Lemons have long been an overlooked fruit. Drowned in sugar and made into lemonade, or casually tossed to the side as a garnish - it can be easy to forget how beneficial they really are. Lemons are antioxidants, packed full of Vitamin C, some Vitamin A, fiber and minerals. They can be used many ways from helping boost your immune system, to being part of your beauty routine.

Here are three of my favorite ways to use fresh lemons:

Tamika and Friends-NYC Chapter First Annual FREE Cervical Cancer Screening Event

Patti and Helen with Dr. J Wright and his staff
Tamika and Friends-NY Chapter First Annual FREE Cervical Cancer Screening Event was held on Saturday, May 19, 2012, in honor of National Women's Health Week.  The event was a complete success.  Thanks to so many people who supported us.

Over 25 women were given a pap test and some of them were given an HPV test.  A few of the women needed minor surgical procedures done as well.  Everyone received their goodie bags and informational material about cervical cancer and HPV.

Words cannot express the appreciation and gratitude we have for Dr. Jason D. Wright, MD and for the Division of Gynecologic-Oncology staff of the Columbia University Medical Center led by their practice manager, Ms. Liat Kabel.

Make It Your Time!!! National Women's Health Week

National Women's Health Week is a week long observance beginning on Mother's Day every year. Yes! Mujeres this year let's make sure that you take the time to make your health a priority. Empower yourself, your daughters and the other mujeres and amigas around you and take the appropriate steps today to make the necessary changes needed to improve your life.

This is Your Week

What health goals will you set for yourself this week? The beginning to anything is always the hardest, but we promise, it does get better. Try a different exercise class, eat something different, take a time out just for yourself. Whatever it may be, just get up and do it!

Happy Motivation Monday

What your tongue tells me

Do you have a mirror handy? You're going to want to check out your tongue by the time you finish reading this. We may occasionally fool ourselves into thinking what we put into or expose our bodies too, somehow doesn't count. Our body however, starts to give off signals to let us know we're not fooling anyone. We get bags under our eyes when we don't get too much sleep, or our hair starts falling out when we don't eat right or suffer from too much stress. Our tongue likes to join in the fun by changing funky colors to show you (and the world) what's really going on inside you.
