Why You Could Be Skinny and Still Fat

There are some people that can seemingly eat anything in the world and never gain a pound. You know what I mean, the friend or cousin who devours an entire pernil right before your eyes, while you just smell it and can feel your clothes getting tighter.Well, you might actually be healthier than them. Why? Because being healthy does not mean being skinny. You see these skinny yet still fat people, who researchers at the Mayo Clinic call "normal weight obesity", may be actually be in poorer health than most others because of something called visceral fat.

Some of Women's Bad Health Habits

We go through great lengths to keep ourselves as healthy as possible.  We exercise, we try to keep a healthy diet, we floss our teeth, we put sunscreen before we go out, we keep our annual appointments for our check ups and paps.  OMG!! No wonder we are exhausted!!

We do all these things, but are you guilty of bad habits that pose a health risk — without even realizing it???

Are Your Manicures Safe?

Many of us visit the nail salon on a weekly basis, and some of us even have our favorite "Chinita" to get those nails looking spectacular.  There are so many nail polish colors, so many designs and so many type of ways to get the nails to look beautiful.

Recently, the gel manicure has increased in popularity due to the nails drying almost instantly, shining like glass and not chipping for almost two weeks. Even though nail salons charge almost triple the price for this type of manicure than the regular manicure, some of us think it's worth it.  Or is it????

My Son's Battle With Leukemia - A Mother's Voice

Please Welcome Guest Blogger and Friend, Diana Lumbrazo

Jonathan at 8 years old
In the first two weeks of March of 1999, my son Jonathan got the chicken pox.  It was uneventful, he just had  itchiness and discomfort.  At the time, I was pregnant and I was a little worried to be in close proximity of him but the doctor assured me it was OK.

A few weeks after his chicken pox episode,  I could tell he still wasn't right.  He was very listless, lethargic and kept complaining of body aches on his side and legs.  The pediatrician thought it might be Guillain Barr Syndrome which sometimes occurs after chicken pox with the same symptoms he had.  The tests were  negative.  As time went on he just seemed to be getting worse and worse, and the doctor was performing more and more tests to find out what was going on.
